"What you give your attention to grows stronger in your life."
One of the statements I find myself speaking often is above. Why? It's what I tell myself and how I live. In addition, when people come to me for energy work or mentoring, there is something they want to be successful at and they aren't there yet. One of the things I notice most about "why" they are having challenges is that the mental and emotional focus is on what's wrong/the obstacle/what's not wanted, etc. When we focus on what we don't' want, what happens? We get more of it! Whatever we focus our attention on grows stronger in our life. What's the secret to success in getting what you want? Learn how to focus your attention on what you want instead of the obstacles. Where our attention goes, our energy flows. In the process of focusing on what we want, we will naturally face obstacles. That's part of the process. However, instead of allowing our emotions around obstacles stop us, we will be fueled by the energy of enthusiasm and excitement for what we are creating. The energy of enthusiasm and excitement is high vibration and aligns with the creative energy of the universe. What we focus on will grow stronger in our life, especially when paired with emotions. This is the basis for many visualization and manifestation techniques. How do we train ourselves to focus on what we want more of? 1. Practice Practice Practice 2. Mindfulness Practices to train the brain and manage emotions 3. Energy Work to clear the issues in our tissues & stop attracting what we don't want. I support you. Whether we are scheduling a massage for ourselves, or giving someone we care about the gift of massage with a gift certificate, it's a gift that keeps on giving. Why? Other than the obvious physical healing benefits of massage, there are mental/emotional ones too: connection, self-care, someone who understands and listens...priceless, really. Maybe after our massage we feel relaxed, renewed, and re-filled and we are kinder to ourselves and each other. Here's a recent comment from client Andrew: "Ingrid was so amazing. The massage left me feeling so relaxed. The best birthday present to myself!" Recently I was listening to a colleague speak about the challenges he faces working with HIGH strung executives. He described some as wanting it done RIGHT NOW and DONE RIGHT - while quickly reacting with anger and frustration when it isn't happening. What I loved about his sharing is the simple, practical, and effective way he handles the situation. What is it? He meets them where they are. He doesn't try to talk them out of anything. And before even suggesting they take a breath or two, he sits with them in the stew. The stew they are in is called "resistance". They are resisting what life is showing them. Sound familiar? Why meet them? Meeting them where they are prevents further resistance! By acknowledging how they are feeling an opening is created to express. At the same time, a connection is being built between what is --- and what is wanted instead. How this space - or gap - is navigated determines success or failure. He then goes on to ask them how it feels in the body. He invites them to pause and take a few breaths with the feeling while asking the feeling what it needs. Guess what? Almost always the feeling needs acceptance, compassion, acknowledgement, expression. What or who is the feeling? It is us! It is us in our vulnerable and sometimes messy human-ness. Phew. Human after all! Once the feeling gets what it needs, energy is freed to come up with a creative response to the situation, to navigate the gap skillfully. He's a yogi in disguise lol. What I find remarkable - and reassuring - is that he is using one of the foundational practices we learn in yoga, mindfulness training, and life. It's the practice of non-resistance. We often learn it the "hard" way with huge amounts of unnecessary suffering. What does non-resistance really mean? In my experience it means accepting what is, even when we don't like it!!! This one practice is a life long teacher. As he helps them gain awareness of their "being", or how they are feeling and showing up, he creates a portal for a deeper conversation. By this time the nervous system has settled a bit and there is space to explore what's next. They can ask questions like, is this way of being (in this case anger, impatience, judgment) serving me and the people around me. Likely not, on many levels. This way of being is actually the opposite of growth and connection. We may get the job "done" yet at a cost. How does this apply to us? We don't have to be high strung executives to experience anger, frustration, impatience or other charged emotions. Whether we are running a nation, organization, community, home, family, --- ourselves --- we all encounter resistance. Sometimes the resistance comes from outside of us and other times it comes from within. However resistance shows up, we can choose to navigate skillfully and along the way gain wisdom and freedom. We got this! I support you. Stephanie “Daily Rituals...Making Everyday Sacred”
In life I have found it helpful to have beliefs. I have also found it helpful to be willing to allow those beliefs to evolve as I grow in wisdom. Having said this, some beliefs are long standing, life sustaining, and act as pillars for me. One of those beliefs is this: everyday is sacred. Knowing everyday is sacred, my intention is to focus energy on daily rituals and practices that celebrate the sacred. Doing so helps me remember it throughout my day. It’s so easy to forget with all the noisy distractions of the world!! My belief energizes my commitment to having daily rituals and practices. While daily meditation is my anchor, many days I also find myself writing, drumming, chanting, and engaging in various other uplifting practices that nourish my spirit (think yoga, dancing with my cats and hula hooping). When I start my day with these nourishing practices, it reconnects me to our essential nature which is unconditional love. Feeling this pure love reminds me of my divine nature. This love washes away any doubt that there is anything more important than bringing love into the world. My spirit is nourished. Ahhh, yes! I am spirit. We are all spirit. And I am human too. As the day rolls on, perhaps I encounter someone being unkind or hateful. These are the moments my daily rituals bolster me. They remind me that everything is sacred. Yes, everything, even the less desirable attributes of humanity. In fact, perhaps we learn the most from these challenging moments? My studies of the Bhagavad Gita have taught me that nothing is wasted. I mentioned this last week in my blog about death awakens us. The pain and suffering we experience is useful, if we choose to see it that way. How so? These experiences help us awaken. The harder moments of life teach us where our limits to love and forgiveness reside. They teach us where we are still growing. Exhale. They teach us to have compassion. They teach us that all of life is sacred. My daily rituals help me stay on the path of awakening to life. Why is awakening important? Well, another one of my beliefs is that in order to fulfill my purpose on Earth (to joyfully serve), I must be awake. Meaning, I must be aware, alert, and of the mind set that everything that happens is for me to learn and grow. I often say, “let’s burn our pain and use it as fuel for the journey”. Coming back to my belief that everything is sacred translates to everyday, every moment, every breath... is sacred. My daily rituals help me remember this sacredness so I may live into it. Living as such is a powerful and humbling practice. It’s an endless practice really. A practice, not a perfect. At this stage of my sacred Earth journey, I don’t know any other way I would want to live. >>>What daily rituals do you have or will you commit to NOW?
