Three things to do at the Sanctuary for RADICAL Self-Care:
Summer is the perfect time to slow down and notice where you need to be "fed". Not with food my friends...with self-care rituals: Massage- From therapeutic and deep tissue massage to relaxing massage, it's one of the oldest healing modalities. Massage can relax muscles, soothe aches and pains, release energy blockages, rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. Meditation- Stephanie likes to say, we get 2 choices: medicate or meditate. From managing stress, anxiety, and PTSD to cultivating a deeper sense of inner peace and well-being, meditation can help. Moon Ceremony - When the Moon is full, it's the perfect time to release. Tuesday, July 19th is the next full moon! Stephanie will lead a powerful ceremony to release whatever is holding us back from experiencing more JOY in our life. In her book, Reclaiming JOY, Stephanie shares the necessity of energetic release to support well-being. As we release, our physical, mental, and energetic space is freed up. The result? We are open to receive more health, happiness, freedom...JOY. Moon Ceremony Details: Tuesday, July 19th, 6:30PM-7:30PM @ Bronxville Wellness Sanctuary RSVP required: 914.337.9356. $25 cash, 8 Spots. Sadness, guilt, low self-esteem, loss of interest in people and activities, sleep and appetite disturbances… these are the hallmarks of depression, a serious condition that affects 400 million people today. We’ve talked a lot recently about holistic treatment alternatives to mainstream treatment of mental health conditions, including PTSD, anxiety and panic attacks. Today we offer our top 3 services for boosting mood and alleviating depression: Massage Did you know that regular massage helps depression? Several studies have found that massage lowers cortisol levels (the stress hormone) up to 50%, and can raise serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that stabilize our mood. The result is less anxiety, a better outlook on life, improved sleep, and fewer aches and pains, another symptom of depression. Yoga Yoga is another fantastic way to alleviate depression. Not only is there plenty of anecdotal evidence (just talk to anyone who has a regular yoga practice!) but research backs this up as well. Various studies have found that yoga improves mood, outlook, distress, anxiety, anger, hostility, stress, physical pain, and more. Heart opening poses and inversions are particularly effective. Reiki Reiki can be beneficial to clients with depression in multiple ways, and this has now been backed up by research as well. Published studies have found that people who receive regular reiki sessions have improved symptoms of depression, which continue after treatment has ended. Studies also found that reiki improves post-operative depression in heart transplant patients. Some of the benefits of reiki sessions for people who suffer from depression include: improved in mood, decreased feelings of shame, guilt, and sadness; a significant lowering of anxiety (both short term and long term); improvement in relationships and interpersonal effectiveness; and increased energy/less burnout.
