What is purpose? What does it mean to live "on purpose"? Purpose as we understand and experience it is our dharma, our work in the world...the meaning of why we were born and what we came to here to "do". Living on purpose means to be interested in our individual purpose and commit to the work of bringing it forth. Not a small topic! However, knowing our purpose and then aligning it with our inner body in order to connect it to the outer world is what brings fulfillment. In a noisy world, it may seem hard to do this. What's harder in the long run is not doing it. How does our purpose connect to Sanctuary? As some of you know, when we (Peter and Stephanie) opened Bronxville Wellness Sanctuary in 2011, we intentionally chose the word, "sanctuary" instead of "spa". Why? Simple. Peter and I had a vision, a burning desire to connect our inner purpose with an outer expression of that purpose. Inner purpose meaning our desire to support others on their life journey. We set out with a vision to provide awesome massage, body-work, and facials, We also wanted to create a healing space. Over the last 11 years, we have stuck to our vision and have added services such as yoga, meditation, energy healing, and mentoring. We have evolved and will continue to. Our vision was and still is to create an environment that feels like a Sanctuary: peaceful, safe, joy-filled, inspirational and educational...a kind and compassionate place people come to renew and nourish body, mind and spirit. A place to experience Sanctuary. Easy? No. Worth it? Every moment. We can't help doing it! It's why we were born. Whether we are writing an email, answering the phone, providing a service, purchasing candles, cleaning the bathroom...we do it all with purpose. We are writing this to open up the dialogue about living on purpose. We are writing to inspire you to uncover and/or deepen into your purpose. You may be thinking. "I have no idea what my purpose is!". That's okay. It's never too late to discover it. Keep in mind your purpose is what you must do. Maybe it's feeding your family, leading an organization, tending a garden, or anything in between. There's no wrong answers. The path we choose to execute our purpose is the "how". Our how continues to evolve and grow as we do. In our case the "how" includes everything we offer from our services and workshops to our newsletter, writing, and snacks. It also includes how we do what we do. Meaning, how we are being (joyful, grateful, kind) in our doing. Everything we do is mindfully guided by our purpose. Especially Peter's jokes!!! As we continue to evolve and walk this path with you, our offerings will expand. We are deeply grateful to you and for you. Thank you for allowing us to share our vision and live on purpose. It's a pleasure and a privilege. What's coming up for you? Feel free to email us and share your purpose!!! We support you. >>>Email to Stephanie Here. "Some people don't need to be pushed. "The greatest adventure you can have is to live the life of your dreams." - Oprah Who's in charge of your happiness? You are! Why do I say this? I've dedicated my life to learning how to live each day in the present according to my highest purpose. I've been learning myself in order to teach others. After all...when we teach, we learn twice! Why am I writing about happiness? It's one of the main reasons people come to me. And... One of the greatest lessons I've learned while studying with Eckhart Tolle is that life isn't here to make us happy. What!!! Exhale. Life is here to make us awaken...so that we may choose to be happy. What does that mean? If happiness is our goal, we will often find ourselves unhappy. As we know, life gives us challenges. One minute all is well...the next minute not so much. And our emotional state takes the hit each time. When things are going well, we attach. When things aren't going so well, we detach. Hence the practices of non-attachment we speak of in yoga, shamanism, meditation, other spiritual paths to help us stay in balance. What I have learned, continue to practice, and want to share is this: t When our focus is on "awakening", meaning-- waking up to who we are, what we want, and why we are here...a funny thing happens. We actually end up experiencing more more happiness!!! Why? Because we learn how to live a meaningful life, a life that is aligned with what matters most to us, not someone else or some ideal. Quite simply, we start taking action on the things that make us "happy" on the inside - things that bring us joy, peace, love. Things that give us a sense we are living a "meaningful" life. How each of us defines a "meaningful" life varies across time, space, personality, etc. As an example, have you ever known a person who is living their life to the fullest by doing only the things that bring them joy? Maybe these people irritate you? It seems so selfish of them!!! Ahhh... or not. Maybe taking care of our own needs is the greatest act of self love we can experience. Because when we love ourselves, we are able to love others. So, while we may have moments of happy/unhappy in our life as challenges arise, when we fully commit to awakening, we are clear on our purpose even when the path is uncertain. We gain tools to weather the storms. In the end, we realize it's our choice to be happy and live the life of our dreams...or not. I support you! >>>If you're ready to choose happiness, book a meditation or energy session with me here. Namaste, Stephanie |
