emotional roller coaster

When I turned 50 last year, the emotional roller coaster of hormonal changes started, big time!

In addition to holistic and medical remedies, I was (and continue to be) challenged on learning how to really let go...of control, judgment, frustration, etc.

Why?

Sometimes nothing really works, or at least nothing works for that long.

Perhaps some of you know what I am saying.

The emotional range goes from peace to anxiety then to joy and depression, sometimes all in one day! Combine this experience with resistance, brain fog, fatigue, and those hot flashes, and wow! What a recipe for disaster.

What can we do?

1. Education & Support
Get educated about what is happening hormonally in your body, and get the necessary support.

2. Stay Present 
Meaning, we accept what we are experiencing, even if we don't like it. We are observing our experience. We are allowing our emotions to come up and move out without resistance or judgment or even having to "understand" and "fix".

Until we are aware of, and accept, this emotional loop, nothing will change. Once the energy of resistance and judgment is freed up, we consciously choose to focus our attention on dealing with the emotional loop.


3. Redirect Your Attention
In this step you redirect your attention on things such as being compassionate with yourself (and others!), and saying kind things to yourself out loud. You can say things like, "I am safe, This will pass, I am loved, I am supported, I am not alone." By doing this, you will change your relationship with the emotional loops. 

Remember, the mind doesn't know the difference between a real event happening now, or an imagined event, either past or future.
When you speak kindly to yourself in the present moment, you will begin to relax. Once you relax, and clarity returns, ask yourself is there is anything you need to do in this moment to feel peace and love? Then do it. Maybe you need to call a friend, cry, or simply be still.
